Like a Yo-Yo Effect every 15 days

One of my sites suffers since october 2010 like a Yo-Yo effect.

chronology:
- At the beginning of october the site was penalized, drop from position 3 for KWA and only a inner page was ranking in position 100 for the same KWA .
- I made some changes in november (dup content issue) and the site at the beginning of december was again top 10 for the same KWA
- At the end of December again the site drop for KWA till the first week of Jan 2011
- At the beginning of Feb 2011 drop again for KWA and go top10 Feb 21, and since today drop again for the same KWA. I can find the site in the position 100 for inner page for the KWA.

Any idea or suggestion? Seems that Google changes something in the algo ... like change a threshold or something like that?

Regards
Martin

What does KWA stand for?

site was penalized does not go together with seems that Google changes something in the algo. You were either penalized, or the algo changed.

Hi John,

KWA is composed by 2 Keywords A+B. Keyword A with another single keyword that is top ten always with another keyword C. In other words A+B is penalized every 15/20 days but C+A is always TOP 10.

All the site was penalized in october for all the keywords ( I suspect a -950 issue because Duplicate content), but since december 2010 the site go for all keywords TOP10 (when I deleted the duplicate content and create new content).

This strange issue happens for keywords A+B sometimes as I mentioned in the previous post, since midd december 2010.

I hope that you will understand me now :)

Thanks for the support!

One more thing... since I updated the site with new content, I never touch it again, so the movements are without changing nothing (content & backlinks)

Might be that it's considered a new site - where these yo-yo rides are common.

I'm seeing the same yo-yo sinc MayDay 2010, as are many others. My site is 10+ years old and was steadily growing right up until May 18th 2010. It's as if every time we grow, G is right there to slap up back.

You have a hidden link somewhere. It depends on how you remove a link using your CMS. Sometimes, some CMS would leave your link sitting there without a link attribute! Thats a flad that makes Yoyo.

@miozio I don't use a CMS and Im not sure of having a hidden link.

You have proof of this?

Mine is not a cms either...hand crafted html. No hidden links.

Take a closer look at your scripts. 99% it's because of it!
@backdraft7 "slap up back"?

@miozio - I guess I'm not catching your drift...what does "slap up back" mean?

You asked me what "flad" is and i am asking you what "slap up back" means.

@miozio - not to prolong and already agonizing post, but I assume you meant "flaw" when you said "flad", unless you meant flad, which as far as I can tell (thanks to wikipedia) is defined as "a shallow bay created as an effect of post-glacial rebound", which makes no sense in this topic.

Oh - I get it! I make error too! I believe I meant to say "slap it back", but slap up back works too. lol

Sorry mods, the topic has gone astray.

Just wanted to say that i had that yoyo effect 4 years ago on one of my sites. It was just for the reason of 1 link that was posted site wide in a wrong way. I accidentally deleted it but the code went corrupt. As soon as i found it and fixed the problem, the SERPs reappeared for good.

I now double check the coding to avoid this. There are other reasons for bad ranking and in my case they were mostly script related.

To share my experience, now this site is Top10 again ... 10 days after...
