This has probably been discussed, sorry for the dup if so. I use FF for almost all my browsing when it relates to research etc, and use Chrome for gmail, google services etc.

Anyhow... I was researching a bit for some small local sites I maintain for local accounts and noticed an increase to 40-50 serp results for local-centric type searches. For instance... "something repair", "something care", "something cleaning", etc, etc.

A simple search for "lawn care" for instance, returned nothing but 50-ish maps and places results, with 2-3 "search" results at the bottom.

I used to see large numbers of local results when I added the cityname to the end, but it seems the entire first page (I show 50 results) of serp's are now places pages.

I read last week that this kind of result was spotted, apparently as a test. Logged in, I'm still seeing regular organic results on the left with both Maps Places and Adwords on the right.

I think the entire area of "local intention" will be subject to all kinds of experiment and change this year. It's not going to stabilize until Google feels they've got it right, which clearly they don't right now.
