Highest traffic ever, but drop in conversions - on Jan 17

Yesterday the website I work with had the highest day of traffic ever, the weird thing is that conversions was way down with this increase. 2k of the traffic came from Google organic with 20 less orders then a normal Monday, and when I do some long tail searches the site actually has the top 3 listings with a plus box for additional listings. Now while this is exciting it is not something that will stick as the results that come up other then the main one are not the best results for a customer making that search so I'm sure the big G would see this and fix eventually.

Now believe me I am not complaining, I can find a way to convert traffic, I just wanted to know if anyone else was experiencing anything like this yesterday, as well as possible things I could look for to make sure that everything on my site is working to convert the traffic best as possible.

Yup! One order yesterday - and that lone order was just me testing my site to make sure that it was still working ok.

january 17th was a holiday which might be why you say some weird traffic activity. also google is regularly testing new tweaks to the algo & serp layout. its possible that you got caught up in one of them.

you mention you are ranking well. i am curious if you have taken enough precautions to overcome google's personalized serps. sometimes people forget about this and see different rankings and/or different urls being ranked. you might want to look at analytics to see which pages were the top landing pages and make they are optimized.
