Does Google set a traffic cap on blogs?

Hello,
during these last months my blog is doing very well and it is getting a good amount of traffic due to some tweaks I did on my blog. On average I get around xyz,kjy pageviews per day.

Day after day I get almost the exact same figure. Yesterday, all of a sudden I had a positive spike in my visits and at the end of the day ( I still had 6 hours to go) I almost got the famous xyz,kjy pageviews.

Well, I thought " Ok, now I am gonna break the record!". Instead what I noticed was that visits started to slow down as to match the famous xyz,kjy pageviews.

And that's what I got! At the end of the day I got almost the same figure.

It looked like as if Google slowed my traffic on purpose to respect some kind of cap.

Is it possible that Google did something like that?

thanks

You didn't mention what you are using to monitor pageviews but it sounds like your adsense dashboard? That dashboard "updates" frequently but the data is not in sync with the actual update time, it's simply the latest available data and pageviews/earnings are tracked separately making what you describe possible. The daily values are more accurate and so it's possible to see big jumps or big dips during the day but end up on par for the daily total.
