So recently, I'm working on a new project that I would love to do as a one page website. There is a lot of content (5000 words and climbing) and although I could split this up into multiple pages, I would prefer to keep everything on one page using anchor links to subsections because in my experience keeping your content together on one page is so much more user friendly than clicking through say 10+ pages especially when the information presented lends itself to a somewhat linear all-in-one read format (which in my case it does).
So what does google think about all this? Am I getting myself into trouble?
On the downside, a one pager means less title tags, less keyword stuffed URL's, less H1 tags to entice google, and a smaller page-count=bad quality in the eyes of google, right?
But I would think on the plus side, there is more potential for long tail results based on obscure keyword combinations... eg If my site was about recipes (it's not but similar in format) wouldn't it be advantageous to put all the recipes on one page as opposed to a recipe on a stand-alone page? So if somebody searches for 'green peppers' 'onions' 'sage' (whatever) you'll have a better chance with a consolidated format of getting this and other obscure combinations on just one page and thus improving your results (well mostly for long tail)? Also, one wouldn't have to worry about duplicate content (especially with keyword rich menu items) with a one-pager, right?
Opinions?
