Strange Google Search Behavior from page 2, 3 etc

I noticed strange google search behavior weeks ago, and because it hasn't changed, I decided to post about it to see if this is happaning with anyone else.

I'm finding that if I search and go to page 2, 3, etc., and then search a new term from the search box (top or bottom), the results continue from whichever page I searched from? For example, I search for "blue widgets", go to page 2, then search for "metal thingys", the results for "metal thingys" begins on the second page of the results. Has anyone else notice this? Is this Google's way of showing different results by not starting the SERPs on page 1?

Just tested it. For me the second search results do begin on the first page.

OK, I figured it out. The odd behavior occures using the toolbar. Search from this link and see:
[google.com...]

I still cannot duplicate the bug, JCKline. I tried your link on FF, Opera and IE 8. Then I tried direct from the Google toolbar in IE 8, and alsofrom the IE8 search on the toolbar.

Strange...it only does this from my toolbar. I think I'll remove and re-install...thanks tedster!

Glad someone else mentioned this. It's been pissing me off for some time now.
Does it with image search too.

Yep, problem has been occuring for a while.

I'm happy to see I'm not the only one...re-installing the toolbar had no effect. It doesn't happen If remove the search query strings minus the search phrase, otherwise, same behavior. Undetected bug perhaps?

They finally fixed their experiment after two months for me. You could see the change in the interface right off the bat. Just goes to show not everybody sees the same thing. Even funnier is Google was returning all Spanish results for me last night. Couldn't figure out what was triggering it. Then it vanished.
