Geo Target in Webmaster Tools... unlisted or disable the option?

our site doesnt have a geo target. so which is a better option of the 2? should we select UNLISTED or just disable the option?

which of the 2 is likely to affect the traffic? pls advice?

My understanding is that if there is no geo target, Google will try to figure one by, for example, server location and other signals and that if you do not want Google to figure it out, then you should set it to Unlisted.

With regards to traffic, setting the site to "Unlisted" may change the traffic as the geo-targeting Google "worked out" will not apply any more. You have to look at this in conjunction on what do you thing Google would work out + where the most of your traffic is currently coming from.

if u change ur site from disabled(not selected) geo targetting to unlisted


how long would it take to reflect the changes?

Often months - and it can have a different effect than you expected. Country targetting is an area where Google made a lot of changes this past year. Unless I see a major problem, or there are many verified "websites" within a single domain, I prefer to let this option alone.
