my site was hit after OCT 22 update. Traffic is down 70-80%

Today, when i checked for site:mysite.com it only displayed a single link on google...

I dont use any black hat methods... may they penalized me for over optimization?!

We update our website in November and can this be the reason? we have set up 301 from old to new links properly.

I am patient enough to wait for all this to settle down... but still would like to know what are the things I should be doing... if at all?

is it time to worry? or wait?

You've got two things going, then - right? You had some problem around Oct 22 that wasn't fixed. Then you changed the site (including its URLs) in November.

I'd definitely wait until January - something is up right now and the reports such as site: seem to be squirrelly again. Are you getting any actual Google traffic? It may be coming to deeper pages, even though they don't show up in the site: operator.

As Tedster said above, there is something strange going on with Google's page counts at the moment. It might be a good thing to check the number of pages in Google's Webmaster Tools (WMT). For my own site, the number of pages returned in the Google results has been dropping but the number of pages listed in the WMT is far greater. It might be that Google's new Top Pages feature (where it shows a limited set of pages for a particular site) has had an effect on the general index so that deep pages (those further down the website's structure) don't show. It is just a theory but it could explain some of what has been going on recently.

Yes, we are getting some traffic from google... but it seems to be dropping by the day!

in WMT we noticed one thing... under the Geographic target it was Checked for "UNLISTED"

when we updated our website... we had update the Geographic target to United States and then to UNLISTED .. I think this could be it?

Should be UNTICK the Geographic target option? would it have any ill effect?

thanks for the help!
