Hi Webmasters,
I began the other-language version of one of my sites. I duplicated the website on another domain specific to that language using my CMS and all the contained data. This made easier the translation as the hired translator just logs in and edit the text and then saves it. No image uploads are needed as the html calls the jpgs stored on the original site. There are no time-wasting use of word or text files sent from here to anywhere.
In short I will be hotlinking to my own images. This saves space on my server account (If you have a big site that's a lot) and if I need to edit one image is just one, no need to update both images.
Pros:
1. I save bandwidth
2. Makes easier to edit and translate the whole site
3. Makes easier to edit and update the image files
Cons:
1. If I ever want to sell the translated site I will have to make inventory of the images to be able of delivering the whole package to my client.
2. Afraid of looking suspicious to the SEs for using hotlinking as this practice is usually found on copy paste sites.
What do you think?
I know the potential problems of hotlinking (using images on your html that are NOT on your server) but my knowledge is about problems with other people (owners of the images), bandwidth, copyright, etc. In this case I'm talking about using my own material on a new site with other language.
Do you know of problems hotlinking to your own images?
