Hi Everyone,

I have a query about a .NZ domain name with decent traffic. The website is currently hosted in US and has around 35% traffic from US, 35% from Asia and only 10% from NZ and Australia. Rest is from across the world.

As the site is currently hosted in US, i was wondering if it will be a good idea to host the site in NZ or Australia or Asia ?

I am concerned about two things.

1. The speed of delivery of content in Asian and NZ region (which i feel can improve in this region as majority of traffic is here).

2. The rankings that may feel an impact if i change hosting.

Also, will it be a wise idea to go for CDN ?

Regards

A CDN is a great idea for an international presence - which you clearly have already. I'd say go for it.

You have already achieved something challenging with a .NZ domain that many would be envious of - getting a strong international search presence. You might sacrifice some of your US traffic by making the hosting change.

Is your target audience only NZ or Asia/Pacific? If so, then the hosting move might make sense.

Thanks for the reply Tedster.

I would prefer to jump on CDN, however, i still have some doubts about it.

One major issue is that i am having lots of images indexed by search engines. If we go in for CDN, they will cache the images on their locations, like cdn.oursite.co.nz

I feel that this may cause issues with the currently cached images and we might lose some traffic due to this.

Otherwise, i feel that CDN might be the way to go forward.
