When I look at my stats in GWT > Search Queries / Top Queries, then pull down to "Moblile (smartphone)", I see that in fact people are getting to my sites via that route.

Today I read at Google News that "Future Growth: Its All About Mobile"

Full Story [mediapost.com]

So here's my question ~ Are people designing parts of their sites to display effectively on smartphones? The biggest smartphone screen I've seen is not much larger than a cigarette pack, so how can a webmaster include what they need to include in such a confined space? If the smartphone clickthroughs in my "Google top search queries" continues to grow (as the article above implies will happen), then I'd like to be ready for it, but am not sure what will work best? Any suggestions will be helpful...

Mobile sites certainly can be a challenge - and don't forget that the iPad is a rather large screen mobile device. So it's not just teeny little smartphone screens anymore.

One place to start might be Google's own guide to Developing Mobile Websites [google.com]

Outstanding tedster ~ thank you!

One more quick question...

I do not use an iPhone or iPad ~ can they ONLY read XHTML, or will they display regular HTML?

Thanks again...

Does anyone know how mobile phone browsers handle images with absolute dimensions? Do the browsers try to re-size the images to fit on the small screen anyway, even when the page code specifies absolute dimensions? Does anyone know?
Thank you
