Keywords more helpful in domain name or in filename?

Let's say I have the option of creating and optimising either a page on an existing website or a small, new website for a specific key phrase "purple garlic widgets".

I have the option of creating the new page on a fairly successful, long- established website (TBPR4) or starting from scratch with the phrase in the domain. All things considered what is likely to attract the most traffic based only on the algo benefits of the keywords?

In other words would I be best to create a page on the existing website

www.qwert12345.com/purplegarlicwidgets.html

or a new website called

www.purplegarlicwidgets.com?

in my opinion if you wanted to rank faster for your phrase then I would use www.qwert12345.com/purplegarlicwidgets.html but if you wanted to focus only on your main kw phrase or expand new categories for kw's related to that then i would use www.purplegarlicwidgets.com but it would take longer for it to start ranking well

Keyword domain names for MFAs are all the rage for Google right now...they love them and they're a pain in the butt in my sector.

From nowhere to the top in a matter of weeks.

Me I would do the domain name as there is nothing better than having a keyword domain and building a site about the product/nitch.

Yes, that's what I thought.

Since the last update, it seems that keyword domains rank well even when every other aspect of the site is of lesser quality than its competitors.

I question how long this will remain the case. Google eventually figures out that people are scamming them somehow.

Could well depend on how competitive the phrase is. As I've seen it, this situation is much worse on Bing than on Google. A particular keyword domain that is #1 on Bing for a fairly coveted phrase in a very competitive area is around #60 on Google.
