I just ran a report on to conduct a crawl and index test and what I found was that 95% of our pages that came back stated that the meta robots had our meta tags as noindex, follow
These pages were indexed weeks earlier but now the meta robots say that it is noindex, follow tagged.
I need to ask is this something google and other search engines can impose? Or something we did in our meta tags?
The big three all show that the tags were setup this way to follow but not index.
We did install a plugin 2 weeks ago that would protect our content for plagiarism by disabling the our site so visitors could not right click and copy content.
Could this plugin also changed the tags to noindex, follow?
Do you think this plugin may have caused the pages to implement this tag automatically?
Our webmaster swears he did not do this with the meta tags.
Maybe this is the whole cause for the drop in rankings and possibly a Google penalty?
We are not banned because we still come up for our example.com and our main keyword phrase but the main keyword phrase and all our pages for that matter is suffering from the minus 60 penalty I believe or maybe Google dropped us in ranking because our tags read as noindex, follow
This is very odd and extremely frustrating.
Any ideas?
