In the last 4 months we built about 1500 backlinks from various link building strategies like Press Releases, Article Marketing and Directory Submission etc....
The only thing a bit different was that a majority of these links about 250 a month were from profile links.
I am sure you have all heard about them. My problem is we recently were hit with what I believe to be an over optimization penalty by Google.
About 90 percent of those 1500 links were linking to our homepage and although we used about 1/2 dozen anchor text, about 1000 of those links were the same anchor text.
I realize now I have to do something about this, so before I ask for a reconsideration form Google to lift the penalty
Should I:
Go back and edit these links with more anchor text and inner pages to link to?
I was thinking about 30 keyword phrases pointing to 30 different url addresses on my website.
Or
Do I remove all the links completely
Just a side note: I am not completely sure why we received this penalty, this is my best guess.
