Hi, what is the current % of traffic for a 1st,2nd,3rd etc place on Page 1 of Google at the moment?

Google has started putting ads on top of the regular search results. Some people could mistakenly think the ads are part of the real results and click on them. So even if your site is number 1 in the rankings, it won't get as many clicks now as before, because it is pushed down the page by the ads.

This is a guide I found:-
The number 1 ranked website receives 42% of clicks The number 2 ranked website receives 12% of clicks The number 3 ranked website receives 8% of clicks The number 4 ranked website receives 6% of clicks The number 5 ranked website receives 5% of clicks The number 6 ranked website receives 4% of clicks The number 7 ranked website receives 3% of clicks
Is this correct/accurate or way off?

Did the guide say when those stats were gathered? It's important because Aristotle's reply is on the mark -- everything is changing since MayDay, so the current #1 may seem to some surfers as #4, whereas there was a time with Google when #1 was in fact #1. Because MayDay/Caffeine is such a new development, it may take time to get up-to-date stats.
When #1 was #1, then #3 was #3 -- now #3 looks like #6 -- a significant difference, with perhaps more impact than what the current #1 is feeling. Part of what you want to check is whether your are above or below the "fold".
I'll just add a personal opinion that if you're not on the first page, you are close to invisible; and every position drop after #1 (in the organics) sees a dramatic decrease in traffic, so it's not out of the question that in relative terms, those stats you quote may still be accurate.

The drop in clicks in relation to the drop in position is incredible. I always knew it was dramatic, but recently we had a site slip from around number 4 to number 11; top of the second page. The number of clicks for this main key word dropped 90%.
We didn't experience much of a drop in conversions as the power of the long tail continues to prevail for us over the trophy terms; but drops like that do dent your mojo.
I don't know why exactly, its all about the first page wether its big or long tail key words.
