New page version counts for ranking before it shows in the cache

I just noticed that the text under the serps result for my page are from the most recent latest version of that page. I then checked the google cached page and guess what it was still caching the previous version.

Not sure that is of any use to anyone but there it is anyhow.

It's a good idea to separate the various processes Google is following. Spidering and indexing are the processes of discovering, and archiving URL data in a way that is suitable for effective retrieval. The "caching" system is entirely separate, and is a way to allow members of the public to view older copies of a given URL, stored on Google's servers.

So, it's quite common that the cache doesn't match the data retrieved when you search - because Google isn't searching the cache - it's searching the index, which is a separate set of data with other elements like categorisation and analysis involved.
