I am considering changing my domain name www.abc.com to www.xyz.com. I was wondering how it works as far as ranking because I think I will loose all my ranking for www.abc.com oand we have to redo the entire link process from scratch for www.xyz.com or is there a way to do a redirect ? without loosing all the work I did over the last few years.

Thanks,

member22 qiuck answer to your question yes you will take a hit. If you proceed you will need to 301 all the www.abc.com domain pages to the exact match on the www.xyz.com or as near as possible.

Then the best other advice is to contact all the sites linking to the www.abc.com and ask them to change them to the xyz domian.

Changing domians needs to be the last resort but it can be done with extra work and getting the links changed a correct 301 setup you might bounce back close to your positions you hold now.

I will advise you with all that is going on now it is a shot in the dark if you come back I really don't think anyone can say yes or no there is just so much happeneing right now it is a complete guess.
