Load speed and external data?

Hi all,

Having read a bit recently about Google putting more emphasis on the load speed of a page I have a question. One of my data providers is supplying real-time data in javascript, another via PHP calls. The data would be interesting to a subset of my users, perhaps 30% or so, but not all.

Am I potentially going to damage my SERPs by adding 3 or 4 javascript and/or PHP data pulls on my homepage?

Probably not, at least not because of load speed. Site speed is currently a minor factor, sort of a tie-breaker in close call situations.

Tedster's right, I would only be concerned with negative affects on user experience and conversion rates.
