Effective interlinking between the main site and the blog

My main site: example.com
My new blog: example.com/blog

The objective of the blog is to promote the website. The blog contains articles which link to main site's more in-depth articles.

I'm hoping to 1. bring visitors from the blog to the main site, and 2. boost ranking of the linked articles on the main site.

Question: Does it at all help for me to place link(s) from my main site to the blog? And if yes, please explain why.

At the moment I hove not a single link at my main site pointing to the blog. But should I do it?

If you feel that at least some visitors to your main website would appreciate the blog content, then linking from the main site to the blog makes a lot of sense. The added viewers could even result in more natural backlinks to the best of your blog articles.

I think you should put at least a few links to the blog from other pages on the site. If nothing else, it could help the blog page get indexed faster. Also, as Tedster said, it could keep some visitors on the site longer.

tedster & aristotle, thanks for pointing me the right direction. Yes, I do feel at least some visitors may find the new blog interesting. Would it be advisable to link the blog from the navigation bar in the header of the main site?

IMO, yes.

I agree with Robert, we always link them up sitewide from the nav.

and within a week or 2 new blog posts will generally rank with the inherited strength of the main site.
