Hello,

I noticed some websites when you type for ex " green widget " have the link green widget appearing first www.greenwidget.com/greenwidget and then the second link on google is www.greenwidget.com ? How do they manage to get their homepage and internal page ranked for the first 2 links for one specific keyword ?

Thank you,

This happens any time one website has two pages that both rank on the same page - with all the algorithm factors we discuss here applied.

Google has what they call the "clustering filter" that causes both pages to be grouped together under the highest ranked URL, rather than being spread out on the page. If you play around with the number of "results per page" you will see a lot more of this clustering.

As tedster suggested, the probability of 2 links for same site is much higher on 100 results per page option than 10 results. In fact, nowadays you would also see a plus (+) sign just below the second intended link that expands to show 6 more results of the same site.
