If you put a custom range in Google before doing a search, the results come with a date under each result listing. Some of the dates are pretty new, some can be quite old. Anyone know what it means?

The dates I get seem to fall within the specific date range I choose. According to this CNet Article [reviews.cnet.com], the date display is the date Google indexed the page, rather than the date file was created or modified.
