I was just wondering if anyone tried not putting the exact keyword they are going for in their title ? I noticed a lot of website have titles that say 3 times the same thing in the title ( with synonyms of the keyword they are going for ) but the title doesn't really mean anything. Let's say you are shooting for the keyword beautiful , lots of title look like beautiful widget, awesome widget, wonderful widget, great widget etc... to try to appear on all the synonyms...

However I noticed that in most cases what counts are anchor text links ... so it is really worth writing all those synonyms ?

Yes, if people are searching for those synonyms. Title and anchor text are probably the 2 most important factors for ranking.

But also strive to make the keyword stuffed titles enticing to click.

I use four main criteria when trying to choose a title:

1. It should give a good indication of the content of the page.

2. It should contain the main keyword or key phrase that I want to rank for.

3. It should attract clicks from searchers who see it in the SERPs.

4. It should be fairly short - ideally two or three words.
