It's not always where it is hosted, I have United States next to some of my sites that are hosted in the UK. I have simply set them to United States in GWMT.

It shows geo targeting set in GWT. We have recently created a /de/ folder on our com site and geo-targeted it for germany and now when url that starts with /de/ folder shows in SERPs of google that is NOT in germany, there is a word "Deutchland" next to URL.

Eg, if URL with /de/ folder is shown on google.at, it shows Deutchland next to URL. If URL with /de/ folder shows on google.de, there is no country indication next to it.

Apparently, this will only show for gTLDs that have been geo-targeted in GWT - it does not show for ccTLDs it is obvious where the domain is from and which country it targets.

Region tags in Google search results are a feature introduced last December.
