i have a that ranks pretty decent in my competitive category. i upgaded my site and by mistake had uploaded a robots.txt file with disallow: \ (it blocked the whole site)

so my site was not allowing google bots and it took me a week to realised something was wrong, by than most of my pages were removed from google index. i created the correct robots.txt immediately.

i waited for another week for the pages to get index, i thought the moment i would change the file my site would be spidered as i get constant hits from googlebot. however after a week if i login to google webmaster i can see half the pages still says blocked by robots.txt.

so i created a sitemap and submitted in google webmaster 4 days back, the next day google webmaster shows no pages blocked by robots,

however my rankings are gone...i only see my home page... most of the popular keywords bring up my site (not the same rank) but rather than bringing the corresponding page that has the keyword it bring my homepage. And if i search for my domain name my site is second with the first being a directoy where my site is listed.

if i do site:domainname it shows all my pages so they are all spidered but unfortunately not coming up for any keyword

this is pathetic for my site which has good orignal content and does really well with certain keywords, is this loss in ranking temporary? will it come back to its orignal rank or just stay the way it is?

Hello Mikey, and welcome to the forums.

Most likely it's just going to take some more time - this kind of mistake usually doesn't create long term troubles. How long ago did you fix your robots.txt mistake?

day 0 - wrong robots.txt file
day 7- updated right robots.txt file
day 14 - created sitemap in google webmaster
day 15 - all pages are index in google (can also see my pages in serp)
day 18 - can only see home page in serp (other page still exists if i do site:example.com) rank completely down. Post in webmaster forum. :(

[edit reason] switch to example.com - it can never be owned [/edit]
