To increase the toolbar pagerank of a page, you normally need to increase the quantity and quality of its backlinks. A single link from Dmoz most likely wouldn't be enough to boost it from PR1 to PR4, so you will probably need to get some quality backlinks from other sites. Also, sometimes the toolbar PR is unpredictable, so even if you get a lot of new good links, the PR still might not increase, for unknown reasons.

Also there's no way to predict that there WILL be a March update for PR. The last one was around the end of December, and March would be pretty early. I'd be surprised, in fact, since Google seems a little "resource challenged" at the moment.

Time for a little client education, I suggest. First look at traffic (quality and quantity). Then look at rankings - as a diagnostic tool for the traffic picture. And then, just maybe, have a smidgen of attention for toolbar PR. It isn;t very actionable information, but at least you know the page is in the index when it shows white or green on the toolbar.

I agree that a PR1-PR4 from a Dmoz listing only is unlikely.

You need to take control of your client though. Ask him what he thinks PR4 will mean? Tell him that Pagerank bar is a user tool indicating the site's possible authority. PR1, 2 and 3 outrank 4, 5, and 6 all the time. Give him examples of higher PRs ranking underneath you.

I listed this site in Dmoz

... then I'd like to hire you! ;)

I know there are many who can manipulate the tool-bar pixels upto 6 with $4/5 K budget.
But the thing is -- does he want only the green pixels or quality organic traffic with high rate of conversions?

PR of upto 6 is easily attainable -- it is the traffic that I would have gone for if I was the client.

Forget faking it, trade off your skills! Contact some high PR sites -- you should only need a handful of decent PR6s or 7s to get a PR4 -- if you offer to list them in Dmoz (something most webmasters I know find impossible) in exchange for a link you'll have a PR4+ in no time.
