Google Changed My Search Preferences - again!

Others here have been mentioning this over the past weeks, mostly as a side comment in a thread on another topic - Google seems to reset search preferences to default spontaneously. It just happened to me again. I just lost the preference to "open in a new window".

On this browser, I do not flush Google cookies - I have a special purpose browser that use for those kinds of things. The first time a preferences reset happened, I thought I might have messed up. But it's now happened at least four times since January. I'm convinced that it is not a user error here - especially since other WebmasterWorld members are also mentioning the same thing .

It's a minor issue as Google issues go, but it never used to happen at all. So what's going on in the Google infrastructure that is causing this lapse, I wonder. Is Google having a senior moment? Maybe it's just some adolescent awkwardness caused by too rapid growth.

Is it only happening in certain browsers, or is it across the board ?

People here have reported seeing it happen with Firefox. And although no one said so specifically, I assume some reports were from IE. My occurrence was with Opera. Just a goofy little fluke, and maybe a "sign of the times".

This happens to me every couple of weeks or so. IE 8, but it happened with IE 7 too. Pretty stupid because I am always signed into my account.

Does anyone think that a google reset will give the plex more info before you revise? And the reset is cyclic? Would love to hear how often these things occur. (And I bet I'm right)

I haven't checked it out closely, but it appears that Google resets my preferences within minutes. It's almost as if they didn't take in the first place. I change the number of sites displayed and the "adult" setting, but they just don't stick. I'm using Maxthon (hi, Tangor).

MaxthonGuy, hi yourself! This google reset is interesting as I have heard about it all over the web, not just here at WW. I'm a Binger these days so don't have this problem, and when I do Giggle I'm NoScript and Hosts ratcheted down so don't see it myself.
