HI webmasters,

I have a .us site which is 1 year old. for my main keyword which is present in the url I am ranking in top 5 in Yahoo and MSN. But for the same keyword I am ranking in the 5th and 6th page of the Google.

The website has pr of '3'
Daily I will be working on Link Building.

Is it due to my website got penalized by Google. Or on what factor i should concentrate to improve my keyword SERP's in Google.

If you never had a high ranking, it's hard to say for sure if a penalty is in the picture. Normally you know it's a penalty when your ranking takes a dramatic fall.

There are so many reasons that a website may not rank well. For instance, you say you are working on link building every day. If you have a lot of arranged links of any kind where the linking site uses keyword anchor text, you may have a penalty because your backlink profile looks unnatural.

But there are many possibilities, including crawling problems, on-page factors, internal link structure, on and on. I'd suggest you take a study of our Hot Topics area [webmasterworld.com], which is always pinned to the top of this forum's index page. The discussions in there can be a good way to get your thinking going.
