-50 Penalty Caused by Negative Site Reviews?

About one year ago we had a hiccup in our mailing that caused multiple emails (over 100 in the same hour) being sent to our clients. Two clients filled out complaints on ripoffreport (we didn't rip anyone off...) within a few days of each other. We got hit with the -50 penalty about a week and a half later. Does Google have some sort of connect or means for getting that sort of info? If those same consumer/s complained to Google via their SPAM form, would Google take such quick/drastic action? Or is this just coincidence? Does a reinclusion request even get looked at for -50?

Thanks..

Coincidence. If that were true it would be so easy to get somebody knocked down. Google will look at your re inclusion request.

Do you know that you have done anything. Are you sure you have a -50 penalty?

No...no link buying.

Had absolute and relative links throughout the site. Went through the entire site and fixed that up. Going to wait a bit to see if that was the issue before we make any more changes. Thoughts?

I think it is important to note that when we search for sentences from our home page in quotes we are either not omitted as result of similar results being omitted with scrapers out ranking or just being outranked by scrapers.

When you get outranked by scrapers like that you do have a penalty.

It does not really matter you do the same thing to get out of all of them.
