Why do my Google search settings keeping getting changed?

My Google search preferences include:

1. Show 100 results per page.

2. Do not filter the results.

Today once again I found that my settings had somehow been reset to 10 results per page instead of 100, and to moderate filtering instead of no filtering.

I haven't kept track of how many times these settings have been changed but would estimate that on the average it happens about every three months. In addition, I've had to turn my search history off (or "pause" it) at least four or five times after it was turned back on without my knowledge.

Can anyone explain this?

Are you refusing cookies for google or have cookies generally turned off?

Thanks for the reply. I had thought about cookies too. But I've always had cookies enabled and haven't deleted any of them for at least a year.

In this latest case, my old settings were still good yesterday, but this morning they had reverted to default. Something must have happened overnight to revert them, but I have no idea what.

I've also been having this happen periodically over the years although I've not bothered to determine if there is any regularity to it. I do think it's something at G's end that get changed.

This happens to me at least once a week. I've checked everything I can think of on my end (cookies, etc, etc) nothing seems to make sense.

Check the cookies from Google and see when they expire. It could be that G only sets those cookies for a month or something.

How does one examine cookie expiration times ?

Could this be G's way of forcing "opt-in"? :)

Sure you can opt-out but we'll just turn it back on later without telling you.

I've had this happen twice in February, and never before that I can recall. I think Google is in the throes of some major behind the scene changes and their handling of cookies just went buggy.
