Hello,

I was just wondering if one outbound link on a page that has 20 internal link is going to have less impact that one outbound link with a page with no other links.

In other words are internal links in google calculation on a page divided the same as external links.

Thank you,

If you're talking about the transfer pf pagerank, the general assumption is that it's divided equally among all the links leaving the page, regardless of how many are external or internal.

I have been hoping for a further discussion from this thread for a while, so I thought I'd shoot out a question:

Do we believe that internal and external links are weighted equally by G - i.e. that a link from an internal page is of equal value to a link from an external page - all other factors equal?

Following the logic that an external link TO a page carries more value than an internal link, would it not stand to reason that internal and external links ON a page carry a different vote?

Been trying to figure out a way to test this, but I haven't cracked it yet. Anyone else have any thoughts or data?

In terms of page rank transfer, it is generally believed that Google's original formula treated all links equally, regardless of whether they are internal or external. Obviously that could have changed, although I don't recall any Google employees ever saying anything about this.

Also, there could be other measures such as "trust rank" which may only be transferred by external links.

As far as I can see it doesn't get an answer.

Danny posted twice as far as I can see. In his first question he asserts that Google have treated different links on the page differently (i.e. nav, footer, body).

Matt doesn't specifically address this in his answer, so Danny then asks a few specific questions in a second post.

Is there an answer to this second post? I couldn't find one but it's a very long page, my eyes started to glaze over.
