Value of reciprocal or one way link

Hello,

I am just wondering if I create a link for someone on my homepage and if they do they the same on their homepage for my website does it have more or less value than if it is only a one way link ?
(meaning only one of us creates a link for the other )

Why do you want a link on your home page? Outbound links should be something that the user comes across when they are about to leave anyway.

I once had inbounds targetting a page with a lot of links and it did badly. Moved the links a level down and not only did the target page rank well but the link pages started coming up in the serps too.

RELEVANT reciprocal links are a natural part of the web, as long as your site doesn't look like a link farm you should have little trouble.

It is less effective than one way link building. If you want link exchange with others then you should exchange with same or higher PR sites as well as good number of backlinks websites.

Link Exchange, it will gain the less value than one-way links but if the links are mutual content related, it also will gain boost the relevancy topic weight to the site even it is still low weight but it would be significant for long tail keywords rather than generic keywords.

I see nothing wrong in doing link trades from the index, but those types of exchanges are only kept for the real sweet deals

But PR is something I'm not interested in and even don't have the foolbar installed anymore its relevancy I'm after when considering exchanges
