I am trying to find out what the criteria is for becoming more prominent on the Google local search results? These are the site links that appear in the search results with a map next to them.
Hope I have posted this in the right place! I will find my way around - not sure why it took me so long to register and start using! :)
Regards
Andy
If I'm understanding your description (and I may not be), the map you're talking about is often called a "local one-box", "local onebox", or "local one box", or just what you called it, those "search results with a map next to them" at the top. There are discussions on this topic both in the Google Search Forum, here, and in the Local Search Forum [webmasterworld.com].
Here are several of the most helpful...

Read through them and also check the references they link to.
Also, for future reference, note that there's a Hot Topics [webmasterworld.com] section, pinned to the top of the Google Search forum home page, which you should check out before posting.
And also, now that you know what these map boxes are called, you can find more threads via our site search, which is linked to up the top of our forum pages.
