Is this Twitter thing about to get ugly for SEO?

We've already had to put up with images, news, youtube and Adwords ads above us in the SERPS ... am I the only one seeing spammy Twitter accounts now rising quickly to the top for search terms?

Nope. I have seen it too, and it's not really something I would call a helpful feature.

However, it only appears for search terms which are hot topics, news, or otherwise related to the real-time search function.

Has anyone seen twitter results for 'static' queries or as part of universals?

I think that for those who can embrace and develop creative ways to make 'news' out of their product or industry, Twitter and subsequent ways that Google shows those news / trend related queries will only server to be another untapped way to generate more sales.

I feed all of our new content into twitter, now when I type in our domain name we get at least 3 twitter results right below our sitelinks.. I'm not sure if those results would trigger for many searches however, so far I would say the traffic benefit is nill. I think all of this integration, youtube, twitter, images, local etc is making a mess. I guess it's good for paid search revenue, the more organics you can squeeze off the front page the better the bottom line. How can Google possibly filter the crap from twitter when twitter is mostly garbage?
