The page I have been targeting does not appear in the SERPs for the keywords desired. Lets say the KWs are 'Region sub-widgets' where sub-widgets are a type of widget.
I do OK for 'Region' (#4, behind all the 'official' stuff)
I do OK for 'Region widgets' (#11)
However, I'm around #55 for Region sub-widgets BUT this is for my home page. The 'Region widgets' page appears a couple of pages later and the 'Region sub-widgets' page is nowhere to be found.
If I type a chunk of text, say 4 words from the 'Region sub-widgets' page it appears #1
In terms of my site, there were a lot of internal links with anchor text 'Region sub-widgets' and this was the title text of the page in question. Over the past couple of weeks I've changed the anchor text through out the site and the page title text. (Is this the most likely culprit?)
What I'm slightly worried about is a few links I bought recently (only 3). These were from reasonable quality blog sites but are site-wide.
I don't think this is the issue as I was basically copying a competitor and the issue has been going on longer than the links.
Any opinions, suggestions and time-frames would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Chris
"These were from reasonable quality blog sites but are site-wide."
What do you mean sitewide?
If you gained dozens of links from 3 sites very quickly, this would be easily picked up by G, especially if your previous history was no links. I never do sitewide links unless under 10 pages (this is not a set rule in SEO, just MPO).
Internal anchor text links can hurt if excesive, it will probably take some time for the G to update this info.
Yep, dozens of links from 3 sites!
As I understand what you have done from example1, example2 and example3.
You have placed on your relative blue and red widget pages links to:
example1/bluewidget
example2/bluewidget
example3/bluewidget
example1/redwidget
example2/redwidget
example3/redwidget
Is that correct?
But, as I said the page wasn't ranking before the external links were set up. Hence I'm thinking the problem was related to anchor text on a few thousand internal pages reading 'Region sub-widgets' and the page having 'Region sub-widgets' as title, h1 etc
Obviously the external links aren't going to help if that was the problem
