Hi Webmasters,

Greetings !

I would like know the exact difference between the below 2 Scenarios:
Why google is displaying this difference?

E.g.:-
Scenario 1: site:http://www.xyz.co.uk/
Scenario 2: site:http://xyz.co.uk/

In Scenario 1 :

If i paste this "site:http://www.xyz.co.uk/" in Google search the Showing about 26 from "www.xyz.co.uk" (with "www.") -->> 26 Results

In Scenario 2 :

If i paste this "site:http://xyz.co.uk/" in Google searchin Google search the Showing about 203 from "xyz.co.uk" (without "www.") -->> 203 Results.

What could be the reason to display like this. Even i checked this in "http://www.xyz.co.uk/sitemap.xml". No url is there without "www."(http://xyz.co.uk/). I mean to say all the url's are kept with "www."(http://www.xyz.co.uk/). How should i resolve this issue.

Ignore your sitemap. Google only uses it as a 'suggestion' of what it should index.

It's most likely that somewhere on your site you are linking to a non-www version of the site, or that you have IBLs without the www.

If you're on a Linux box then read up on 'htaccess 301 redirects from non www' or visit the Apache forum here and do a search, there will definitely be at least one relevant thread there.

Also, you see the difference in number as xyz.co.uk will also bring up results for all the sub-domains of xyz while in case of www.xyz.co.uk you have specified/restricted the sub-domain as www.
