Hello all,
I've just created some webpage which can already be hooked up on Google. The only problem is that Google shows not the index page, but some other. Bearing in mynd the index (front) page is more important than the others, I'm wondering how can I correct this behaviour of Google? Reading robots.txt tutorials hasn't helped me.

Of course, I could disallow that page that Google directs directly to, but I'd like it to be indexed too. Is it possible to prioritize between pages being indexed?

Hi forcefeeder and welcome to Webmaster World.

First of all, I would try getting more incoming links to the index page. Then I would make sure the sitemap.xml shows a higher priority number for the index page. Also make sure there is enough indexable content found on this page (more than one hundred words.) Then just give it some time.

Dear Keyplyr, thanks for your welcome! Sitemap.xml is certainly what I was looking for (I'm rather a beginner at tools like that). So thanks fo the good advice!

It isn't that the home page isn't indexed its that Google things the inner page is more relevant for whatever search you have tested with. This is probably mainly due to better content on the inner page possibly helped by a few direct links.

Study your site stats and see what searches are taking people where. Consider what content you have on your home page and if it is says the right things.

If your are getting hits on "widget user groups" and the phrase "user groups" is only found on the inner page then you need to see if you can improve the home page content to mention "user groups" as well.
