Suppose I have a company website, and I decide to register the underlying business in Google's Local Search facility. But, let's suppose that another generic segment of my business (contained in a folder of my main website) does NOT cater specifically to my local search area - it is generic enough to cater to all regions (perhaps, in the world), and never specifically mentions locale.

Will the registration of my domain (website) in Local Search, negatively effect my rankings for the generic portion of my website, which doesn't cater to my local area ?

Thanks in advance for any insight into this issue.

I haven't seen this kind of cross-confusion in practice, but it does sound like a potential issue. Maybe someone else has some input.
