Does anyone else agree the pattern of less organic search traffic is not going to change? With more and more inventory available to the engines and users habits changing due to better understanding of the internet and greater branding the future of search traffic and SEO is looking pretty tough at best. A college commented recently that he thinks Google has less traffic, although that is probably not 100% correct Google certainly has more options available every single day when it comes to delivering the traffic it has. Recently we have reached the top place in Google for what promised on the surface to be some decent traffic volumes only to be surprised at what the real numbers were.

I've been conducting a bit of a social experiment of late, checking what people at the internet cafes are looking at and I rarely if ever see anyone using Google. I do understand Google is a tool not a destination like facebook for example, having said that as an internet marketer it seems logical that you need to focus on brand building and marketing where the people are spending the most time rather than just chasing down the ever shrinking volumes of available search traffic.

Definitely the share is more segmented with Universal search, and the major SE's competing for new interesting ways to connect the user to information.

However, at the same time, more and more people are searching the Internet. I would say that for the next 3-5 years, in my opinion, the pattern negates itself, so that there is still roughly the same amount of traffic.

All that being said, certainly utilizing social media, video, and all of the other popular channels is a no brainer for many businesses.
