cache: operator shows pages - even with long term noarchive tag

There seems to be some strange stuff going on with the cache.

Some pages that should be cached are not cached. For example, see this search [google.com] for Wikipedia pages. Some of the results are cached and other are not. If you look at the pages that are not cached, there seems no obvious reason why they are not.

This is what I'm more concerned about though:

I've got this site which has had noarchive for the last couple of years. If you do a site:mysite.com search in Google all the indexed pages show up without a "cached" link. So you think they are not cached. But if you search for cache:mysite.com/page1.htm ... some of them seem to have a cache and with a date as recent as this month! (Other pages don't have any cache). All pages on the site have the same noarchive meta.

Any thoughts?

I think Google is messed up here. Even though they don't display the "cached" link in the SERP, they still show the page when you use the cache: operator? That's a violation of their word - even if it is accidental.

Thanks for your reply, tedster.

This is happening with one other site of mine, now :(

Different WHOIS/IP/host/design/sector.

Has nobody else had this problem?

This happens all the time. For the last 6 months at least I have been noticing this with several of my websites that are not connected in any way.
