Lost Backlinks & Increased PR

This is a strange situation I've run into and I was just curious about your thoughts on this.

I have a site which after the recent PR Update, 2 of it's pages increased their PR even though each lost backlinks.

Does anyone know why something like this would happen?

It could be a number of reasons but I think it depends on where those back links came from. if they where on sites Google didn't think had much benefit than this might be a good reason why this might have occurred.

The PR showing on the toolbar is generally a snapshot from two or three months ago. The PR shown on the toolbar is not an accurate measure of anything, although it could tip you off that Google might have a problem with a page if it's gray or white, but the toolbar is so unreliable that it's better to get off one's behind and do a backlink search and manual inspection to verify if something really is wrong.
