Google and blogs - new blog ranks on keywords when older site doesn't

i run a small [service] website, which for years due to high demand of key words has never really come that high in google searches dispite building links with like minded businesses, adding and checking page content and meta tags.

Now a fun thing happened... i started a blog less than two months ago on blogger, i just typed about [services] we've done and how nice they we're and what we'd done at them.

I happened to be checking our main site in google to see if and where it might be listed.... to my huge surprise the blog is listed on page 3 ! ive done NO link building, no search submissions, no meta data even...

and the google page rank is 0 zero,

can anyone explain how this happens ?

Although very happy, very confused !

it won't last - G likes to give new sites a boost then drops it so make the most of your "holiday" traffic it won't last

once dropped it will then start looking for links and further content added, if it thinks the site is worth listing it will start ranking the site again

one other question, if my sites content stays static, as in this is what we do and our service, how can we keep adding new content about widgets that never change..?

you add articles about the services you offer, new products, features, changes within the service you offer, also use your stats to see what keywords are pulling traffic and if you can write articles on those terms that are generating traffic

sorry articles / pages within the site - and to help it write another one and submit that to some of the article directories

can anyone explain how this happens ?

There could be several reasons, the newbie site is usually the one however have you written and presented these posts in a completely different way to your original site?

Have you carefully used relevant keywords in your title and actually used your title for your "vanity" url?

I hate that "vanity" stuff...by this I mean instead of:

example.com/blog/?p=100

You have:

example.com/blog/my-article-about-my-company

Simple things such as these can give a tremendous boost.

The again it may be something completely different altogether!
