Why will google not rank me for a keyword that I have in my domain?

My site example.com ranks #1 in Yahoo for the keyword "example" but does not show up in the search results for Google with the same key phrase. Why is this?

Does Yahoo place that much more weight on having the keyword in the domain name than Google?

That's why Yahoo! results pale in comparison to Google's. The name should have little bearing on the results, content and credibility are more important for good results.

Does the keyword "example" appear in inbound link anchor text? How old is the site; how much SEO has been done, etc?

My experience is keyword in domain helps a ton with google.

But you do need something to go along with it.
i.e. a parked domain or PLR article site doesn't cut it.

I've created sites with similar age and no inbound links and rank very well for them in Google. Is there a way to find out if this particular site has been black listed by Google?
