Do country-specific nameserver TLDs affect geo-targetting?

We have a VPS located in the US (Chicago) that we set up a few years ago with ns1.oursite.com.au as the name servers. We do run a couple of US .com sites on this configuration and wanted to get some feedback on this as a potential issue with our Google search results. In webmaster tools the domains are set to US, are we sending mixed signals by running this setup?

I've never run into this situation, but my instincts say the answer is no. If Webmaster Tools has allowed US targeting, then the nameserver should not be an influence.

but my instincts say the answer is no.

My experience would suggest not as well.

My name servers are .co.uk and I don't seem to have any problems with my country-specific sites ranking well in their respective Googles such as .co.in, .cn and, of course, .com.

I did used to have a server in the US for some sites and those sites were very rarely seen in results outside of the US.
