Are good organic ranks filtered from Google Maps listings?

Does anyone have any tips that they would like to share in regards to how to get better Google Maps placement. Lately I have noticed that one of my top organically placed clients is not showing in Google Maps at all.

Is it possible that if you place well organically there is a filter that keeps your listing from showing in Google Maps which is shown on Google.com above the organic results?

IMO, there's no filter, and in fact good organic ranking may ultimately be helpful. Google Maps looks at additional factors, though, including listings in local directories of various sorts, local reviews, etc. Registration with the Google Business Center can help quite a bit. See discussion in this thread....

Also, Google Maps has been going through some reorganization recently, and the tabbed "more info" results are being replaced by Place Pages [webmasterworld.com], which we've been discussing here in the Google Search forum. It's possible, if your client was once listed in Google Maps, that those listings have disappeared in the reorganization.

I recommend taking a look at the Place Pages of competing local sites and seeing what Google is featuring on those pages. Then make sure that your client has similar resources and references available on the web.

There's currently an excellent discussion in the Local Search forum about improving local rankings....
