From position 6 to page 18

Hi guys,

I have a site which ranked between 10 and 11 for a particular keyword for a week or so. It ranked 6th on September 20 and since September 21 its on the 18th page!

Can someone explain this phenomenon to me because I am very confused.

Hello gdhaliwal23, and welcome to the forums.

If this is a relatively new site (a few months old) then it sounds like the standard treatment that I sometimes call the honeymoon period. Things are very nice in the beginning but it doesn't last - then the real work starts.

If it's an established site with some longer term history, then it sounds like a penalty of some kind.

Thanks for the reply tedster, it is a relatively new site (about 3 months old).

Its gone from page 18 to page 24 just now.

Take a short break and come back in a couple days. Sounds like the honeymoon is over but things are flying around and you'll want to wait for them to stabilize before you decide on what to do.
