Searched using a three word phrase, the SERPs have changed in the following ways:08-11-2009
# of Results - 962,000..... SERP Position - 21........ Landing Page - Intended Page08-17-2009
# of Results - 987,000..... SERP Position - 37........ Landing Page - Home08-20-2009
# of Results - 984,000..... SERP Position - 17........ Landing Page - Family Page
The three different landing pages for the same phrase are dissimilar. # of results don't vary by a huge % but why it's choosing three different pages for the same phrase, I don't know.
OK Fine.......Let's look at a four word phrase and notice how it has changed too:08-11-2009
# of Results - 345,000..... SERP Position - 10............. Landing Page - Intended Page08-17-2009
# of Results - 722,000..... SERP Position - 8......... Landing Page - Home08-20-2009
# of Results - 345,000..... SERP Position - 18........ Landing Page - Family Page
For the life of me can't get my head wrapped around what's going on. Anyone have any ideas?
why it's choosing three different pages for the same phrase, I don't know.
Have you taken notice of the IP address giving each set of results?
But more than that, clearly this is algo experimentation. I'd lean toward the power of anchor text as an on-page factor getting tweaked around. Whenever I see the home Page ranking instead of a more appropriate internal page, that seems to be the issue.
My point about the anchor text is that as Google turns the dials, sometimes the page WITH the link is considered tp be the most relevant, and sometimes the page that the link POINTS TO is rated as the m,ost relevant.
