My website is based on servers in the United States but if I do a search to see how I rank worldwide ( using firefox global search ) I noticed I rank pretty well in most country for the keyword I am targeting but extremely bad in the usa ...

How can it be the case see that I am based in the usa and the number or results is exactly the same in the usa , canada or australia for that keyword ?

Thanks,

I'd say that's not actually true - it sounds like a technical bug.

it is technical bug that cost me a lot of potential customers... is there any way to contact google and tell them to fix it ? or is it because I switched to a us server only a few month ago and it takes google a lot of time to rank me in the usa in the sampe position as everywhere else ( or almost ) as the rest of the world ( the change was made over 3 months ago ... )

Geographical issues are a bit complex. For instance, you changed your server's location - but your backlinks are still just as they were.

Also note, the total number of results is not a very good indicator of how much competition there is. The number of Adwords ads is better, and the quality of SEO of the top ranked sites is another.

... and shouldn't my ranking in the country I use to have my website located in have dropped ? because it hasn't moved ?

The only thing that changed is the fact that I finally appear in the usa after moving my site over there but 10 pages further than where I am currently in other countries... ( maybe it takes time but after 3 months .. )

so what you are saying is that it might not a be a bug but just the fact that the usa is more competitive and that I might need more backlinks ?

What I don't understand is how can the usa be more competitive than another country aren't the results usually similar ? does google work globally ?
Thanks,

Well, it can often be the case. Google.com does NOT have one set of global results, not even close any more. Results are very much tailored to the IP address of the person doing the search.

Tailored to the IP I agree if you decide to buy a bed and your located in Canada it is not going to send you to a website selling bed sin Mexico but to me there shouldn't be such a big different between search results a few links before or after is ok but not 10 to pages further, to me there is a bug somewhere but what...
