Excluding parts of page from Google Mini's Site Search

I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong forum.

The company I work for has a Google Mini in which we use on our website. Currently it is working fine for us, but we would like to further advance our exclusion options (if possible).

Right now, we are excluding whole pages and document types (where needed) so when someone searches using the search box in our website, that web page, or item, won't appear in their results.

What we want to accomplish is the exclusion of our left navigation (if possible). Our left navigation is cluttering our search results, and we would like to exclude those words from our search results.

Is it possible to accomplish this? To exclude parts of a page?

Can we exclude certain html elements/segments?

If anyone has any insight on this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thank you in advance

I'm almost certain that there is (or was) a special tag you could use on your pages to say "skip this" -- just like you can in Adsense, it was a different syntax. I remember people talking about it in error, as though it could also affect regular indexing and Google's own organic listings.

I've been looking for that information but so far not turning it up.
