can i request a visit from the google spider?

My site must have been crawled while it was undergoing maintenance, and now the Google meta tag results show an error (even though we're still in the same place).

Is there a way to request a visit from the Google spider, so that we can update this meta tag?

You could upload a new sitemap, I suppose, and show the page as newly updated. But Googlebot will be back on its own crawl schedule, no matter what, and it shouldn't be long.

You also might check what http header status your server sent with that error message - just in case it isn't configured properly and sent a 200 OK with the visible error message.
