I have a few questions and would very much appreciate ANY input...
I have a blog in a relatively uncompetitive market. I recently changed the homepage to my site, example.com; the blog itself is in a different directory, example.com/wordpress.
Google usually displays a link to example.com/wordpress because I didn't want people going to the default index page for example.com; I wanted them to go directly to the blog. I left the default index page (example.com) out of my sitemap.
I changed the main page (example.com) just because I had a javascript redirect to the blog, now I have a banner, 3 links (with the intent for them to be displayed as my Google sitelinks) and one sentence describing my blog with a link to the blog within it.
I ranked pretty well for my keywords, not the best but page 2 was good for me. My main keyword stays on the first page but the page it points to changes day to day. Recently, as in today, my site dropped to the 3rd-10th pages for my other targeted keywords.
I have relevant backlinks, most are the same niche and some are from link building. I have a robots.txt file restricting access to translated pages (I have pages translated in Spanish and Polish and restricted indexing access as to keep from indexing duplicate content) and a sitemap with 98/102 pages indexed (according to Google WMT).
Any ideas why my site would suddenly drop like that?
Thanks!
